Home-made Gasket making

by on Apr.29, 2012, under Vector Art

Steps to create your own Gasket.

  1. Buy gasket making material. Here is what AutoZone has online. I stopped in the store and they had a cork-like material.
  2. Take a picture of the item being made for. Try to make sure the photo is the most head-on as possible for the most accurate trace.
  3. Load image in illustrator and trace as I did
  4. Resize image to print traced image the exact size as the real gasket. Making measurements within illustrator isn’t difficult. Use a tape measure on your actual item and compare widths.
  5. Print
  6. cut
  7. make outline onto cork material
  8. cut cork material, making holes first (you will be more likely to rip cork material if you cut before making holes)

Download the EPS (this EPS is for a gasket fitting the inside of a Carter YFA carburetor found on a 1978 Ford Granada 6 cylinder)
